Compilation video of Southern #630’s trips through the Carolinas in 2012

June 30th, 2012

I did a full compilation of all of the footage I shot of Southern #630 during all the trips around North Carolina (and partially in South Carolina and Virgina), you can see it here.

The Last days of Steam…

June 24th, 2012

…well, at least for the time being on the mainline here in NC.

The Southern 2-8-0 #630 finally rolled out of the state on its way back home to Tennessee after being here for almost a month. Got a lot of chances to do see it, so I took them. Hey, planes, trains and automobiles, right?

To see the full gallery of photos (almost 3 pages), click here. To go to the next page you can click the numbers at the lower right.

I posted some videos of the trips:
June 6th – into the Carolinas
June 9th – Trips from Spencer to Barber
June 23rd – up to Winston Salem
June 24th – Goodbye to the Carolinas

I’ll also probably post a ‘best of’ here in the next few days with some previously unseen clips as well.

Getting steamed up…

June 10th, 2012

Since the Southern #630 is scheduled to be in Spencer for a few weeks, we took the opportunity to go back and do some more photography/videography this weekend. You can see the new photos here, and the video of the trip is here. The video is in full HD.

Was a good day, a few more people showed up than during the move from Atlanta to Spencer.

Steam through the Carolinas

June 6th, 2012

The Norfolk Southern Railroad sent a steam locomotive from Tennessee up through Atlanta to the old Southern shops at Spencer, NC, and I managed to catch a lot of the action.

They are doing this for Norfolk Southern’s 30th Anniversary, and in June they’ll be allowing people to ride the steam locomotive out of the North Carolina Museum of Transportation. If you are interested in a ride, check it out!
